Boarding & Pricing

All your dog's needs are covered in one daily price. Every dog we care for gets to go outside several hours a day and live in their own private room. Our goal is to make sure they are mentally/emotionally sound as well as physically worked out as much as necessary for each of their individual needs.

Boarding Policies

  • Dogs must not be aggressive to humans without exception

  • Meet & Greet - All new customers and existing customers with new dogs must schedule a Meet & Greet. We do these everyday between 12-3pm except Fridays. Please email us at markandzuzi@mtviewdogranch.com to schedule a tour if you are interested in boarding.

  • Your dog is not sociable? If your dog is human friendly, but not dog friendly, we charge an additional $15 per day for the stay. This is not to be punitive to you or your dog, it simply takes more labor to ensure your dog(s) get the exercise and attention they need.

  • Vaccinations - We require all the standard vaccinations and strongly recommend the Bordetella vaccine.

  • Fecal Test! - Giardia can be a huge issue for us and you. We require a negative test with in 30 days. Ideally, you will do this within 10-14 days of your dogs stay. This gives you time to treat any issues and closes the window where they might contract, bring it to us, and spread it to others. Some important things to note about this:

Most dogs that have Giardia are asymptomatic. They bring it, others get sick, and no one knows what/how it happened.

Many folks tell us they have a clear test in recent months. That does not mean they didn't get Giardia at any point after the test.

At Home Test Kits - Vets charge quite a bit of money for these tests. The time and $ can be burdensome for many. You can purchase a test kit Online for a fraction of the price and save time in the process.

Socialization & Routine

What if your dog cannot be socialized?

Most of the dogs we take care of are dog friendly (i.e. they can be socialized with other dogs). We put them in groups of like-minded dogs. We might have groups of 15, 12, 8, or 5 dogs at any given time, depending on circumstances. We group them based on temperament, age, health, and other considerations.

Many dogs, for a variety of reasons, do not do well with other dogs. They get the same schedule and treatment as the social dogs, but this is all done one on one with one of our staff members. As noted, there is a higher charge for this scenario.

For example:

  • Group Size - We could have 35+ dogs that get along with all. However, we will not create a play group this large, it is too many to supervise at one time. We would place these dogs in 2-3 separate groups so they can be in a more controlled setting.
  • Senior Dogs & Limited Activity Requirements - We might have several senior dogs and a few dogs with limited activity requirements (maybe they just had surgery, they have a sore leg, etc.). Even though these dogs might get along with all, we will put them in a separate group for playtime, so they don't get injured or aggravated by high energy dogs.
  • Small Dogs - Many small dogs get along great with large ones. Depending on the small dog, we may mix them in a group with larger dogs, for example, if it is a more robust breed such as a French Bulldog. Small dogs that are more frail will likely be put into a group with other small dogs so they don't get injured or overwhelmed by rowdy, larger dogs.
  • Temperament - Your pup might be shy, or might deal with some anxiety around more active dogs or larger groups, etc. While they may appear physically normal and capable, it is often better to group them with senior or health challenged dogs which are more mellow or otherwise match their personality. They might also be a great mix with a group of smaller dogs.
  • Unmixable Dogs - As mentioned above, sometimes, there are dogs that simply cannot be mixed with any others. They might be aggressive towards other dogs, a very high level of anxiety, geriatric, recovering from surgery, or are otherwise vulnerable or make other dogs vulnerable. We DO take dogs that fit this category, and they will follow the same schedule and activity levels as other dogs. The only difference is they will be taken individually on walks with one of our staff members through our large network of trails in the woods. Due to the high labor cost associated with these pups, there is an additional charge, see Pricing at the bottom of the page.

Daily Routine

All dogs, generally, follow the same routine:

  • 7am we begin taking dogs out in the groups they are assigned to so they can go potty.
  • Dogs are then returned to their rooms and immediately fed.
  • We let their food settle in for about an hour.
  • All dogs are taken out for their respective group playtime or walks for at least (3) 30-minute sessions throughout the day.
  • Dinner time around 5-5:30pm.
  • Dinner settles and they rest for 60-90 minutes.
  • Between 6:30 & 9pm, we let all the dogs out again in their assigned groups or for walks.
  • Bedtime!

What Should You Bring?

We have a few boarding documents that you can download below, or we will send you, that cover most information necessary to take good care of your dog. Below are some guidelines that will help.

  • Collar - Make sure your dog has a collar when you arrive. Please do not bring leashes, but if your dog has a special harness that you prefer, or is necessary for walks, then bring that.

  • Food - Bring your dogs food. If your pups are here for an extended period, then feel free to bring the whole bag of food, or whatever container system you use at home. For dogs that have wet food, or food that needs to be refrigerated or specially prepared, bring that as well. We will accommodate that. Please bring extra food for your dog! Do not bring dog bowls unless there is a practical need such as such as ‘puzzle bowls’ that slow the dogs intake of food. If you have special treats please bring those.

  • Toys – If you need to bring toys then you can do that. We will not let the dogs bring the toys out of their rooms and are not responsible for them.

  • Medication/Medical – Bring any medicine, boots, cones, etc… You can fill out any related details on the boarding documents and we will be happy to discuss with you person, on an ongoing basis, regarding any changing needs your pup might have over time. Please bring extra, in case of delayed pick up for any reasons.

  • Bedding/Crate – Please bring whatever bedding/crate your dog uses at home. If your dog destroys their bedding, we will be happy to go pick one up at your cost. Tip: think about bringing something that smells like you… a t-shirt, dirty socks… whatever you think would make them feel at home.

When You Arrive

  • Gate – We have a gated property. The gate is unlocked at 9:30am and then locked at 6:00pm. When you arrive during this period the gate will be unlocked. Please lift the latch mechanism and give it a firm push forward to open it, and then PLEASE close it behind you when you are through the gate so our dogs that roam the property do not walk onto the road.

  • Parking – Park anywhere in front of the dog barn. Please keep your dog(s) in your car until the ‘coast is clear’. We often have dog-aggressive dogs on leashed walks around the property and it can cause an issue when someone lets their dogs jump out of the car, run around, and get attacked just prior to their flight to Hawaii.

  • Time – You may come anytime between 9:30 and 6:00. We appreciate that you communicate a specific time to us, but we realize it is not always possible to do this when traveling.
  • The Drop-Off – Please do not be in a hurry to do this, especially if you are a new customer. We see it all the time… people are in a hurry, parents are stressed in route to somewhere, kids are running around like crazy (they like it here), and the dog picks up on all this energy (for better or worse). Be calm and leave time for this process please. We will spend as much time as we can going over your documents and have a discussion with you about how to best care for your dog. Sometime this process takes 20-30 minutes, with most repeat customers it is less than a couple minutes of your time.
